“Take Me School” Education-Sharing Programme

Learning opportunities should not be limited by resources

Children learning and growing with nature
SDG 4 Quality Education
SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities
SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals

A child arriving at school with a bag may also need a working tablet, a hall where everyone can hear clearly, a suitable set of books, or a learning experience beyond everyday life. A desire to learn should not be limited by the resources available.

Two programmes, one commitment to the community

Will Legend’s community programmes share one starting point: listening to people’s needs and connecting partners with practical ways to help. One focuses on care in everyday life; the other supports children’s learning and educational opportunities.

01

Community Support Programme

Practical support, community visits and festive care connect partners with older people, low-income households and others who need help. The programme brings people together to turn goodwill into everyday care.

02

“Take Me School”

Education-Sharing Programme

Learning resources, school support and exchanges help children access opportunities to learn. The programme connects schools, businesses and education partners around each school’s needs, from Hong Kong to Xinjiang.

WHO IS WILL LEGEND

Who is Will Legend? Why the programme began

Will Legend is an SDG Partner connecting businesses, organisations, schools and professional partners to plan and deliver education and sustainability projects.

Through “Take Me School”, Will Legend first listens to schools, teachers and students, then connects businesses, organisations, education and community partners to turn resources into practical learning support. From Hong Kong to Xinjiang, children with different backgrounds and languages can share their hopes for learning and the future. We want children to receive more than supplies: opportunities to discover knowledge, technology, nature and a wider world.

A reflection from our founder, William

“Growing up with limited family resources, I envied classmates who could buy new stationery, storybooks and computers, or go on trips. That is why children’s education matters so much to me today. Through my own contribution, I hope to encourage more businesses, organisations and schools to support education, bring resources to students in need, and give children opportunities to experience different ways of learning.”

“I love doing something to help nature and society, not just for now, but also for the future.”

PURPOSE

Why “Take Me School”?

For Will Legend, education sharing goes beyond sending the same supplies to different schools. Each school has its own needs in learning spaces, technology, reading, health and educational activities. Understanding the problem a school wants to address comes first; suitable resources and partners can then bring support into classrooms and children’s development.

Children are the “seeds” of a greener future. Opportunities to discover science, nature and people from other places can help today’s support become a starting point for giving back to society and nature tomorrow.

A SHARED FUTURE

Education sharing and sustainable development

“Take Me School” primarily responds to SDG 4: Quality Education, including its focus on equitable, inclusive and effective learning environments. Projects addressing resource gaps also relate to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. Co-design and delivery involving schools, businesses, organisations and specialists reflect SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

These international goals help explain why the work matters and how to act together. A single donation or activity cannot eliminate intergenerational poverty on its own. What matters is building resources children can use, learning environments that continue to benefit schools, and further educational opportunities.

IN PRACTICE

From Hong Kong schools to schools in mountainous Xinjiang

HK$100,000 donation to support the school hall
Supporting school facilities in Hong Kong.

Since 2022, Will Legend has worked with Po Leung Kuk Mrs Chan Nam Chong Memorial Primary School around its actual needs. Support began with smartphones and tablets and extended to funding for the hall’s sound system, school hygiene and disinfection supplies, and New Year gifts for the school. These different actions share one starting point: listen to what the school needs, then consider how to help.

Will Legend donated HK$100,000 to help improve the school’s hall sound system and learning environment. This illustrates how education sharing can also respond to spaces used by the whole school community.

School exchange in Xinjiang

The programme subsequently extended to schools in Xinjiang. Through the “Green-blueprint: Ethnic Integration” Scholarship, Will Legend provided educational resources for the Willy Bee® Technology Classroom, along with school bags and tablets, to Nileke County Bee Farm Central Primary School in Ili Prefecture. School bags, books and tablets were also provided to Gaochang District No. 5 Primary School in Turpan. From Hong Kong to Xinjiang, the programme connects learning resources, technology education and exchanges between the two places.

HOW WE WORK

How can a school’s need become a project?

01

Understand needs

Discuss what students, teachers and the school most need, rather than starting with a ready-made donation list.

02

Co-design support

Decide whether to improve learning equipment, provide books and teaching materials, support technology learning, or design science, nature and sustainability education activities.

03

Connect resources

Businesses, organisations, education providers and professional partners contribute according to their capabilities; Will Legend coordinates resources and delivery.

04

Deliver and continue

After resources or activities are delivered, learn how they are being used, document the process and outcomes that can be shared, and discuss the next step.

The value of “Take Me School” lies in resources that children and schools can genuinely use, and in helping people understand how their contribution makes a difference, rather than simply the quantity donated.

WAYS TO COMMISSION

How can businesses, organisations and schools take part?

01

Sponsor learning resources around school needs

Businesses and organisations can sponsor school bags, books, tablets, technology-learning equipment or other resources whose need has been confirmed by the school. Will Legend can help identify needs, connect with schools, arrange purchasing and delivery, and document the project within the agreed scope.

02

Commission school science and sustainability education

Starting with glaciers, water, bees and biodiversity, Will Legend can work with schools and specialist partners to design talks, reading resources and teaching materials, educational films, exhibitions or participatory activities. Partners may support one school or discuss extending the work according to their capacity and the school network.

03

Support books, original characters and technology learning

Businesses and organisations can commission or sponsor book printing and Willy Bee® educational resources and stationery for students, subject to school agreement. Technology-learning resources and educational content can also be developed. IP use, content, quantities and permissions are agreed before the project begins.

04

Connect Hong Kong with Xinjiang schools, then join the Glacier Journey

One partnership can support education in Xinjiang while enabling employees, students or other participants to join the Glacier Journey. Businesses, organisations and schools can commission Will Legend to connect education sharing and school exchanges with the “Let the Glacier Cool” Glacier Journey. From sharing learning resources and meeting local teachers and students to visiting glaciers and research sites, the experience connects education support with first-hand learning about glaciers, water resources, climate change and the relationships between nature and local life.

05

Develop one contribution into an ongoing programme

Businesses and organisations do not have to build an entirely new education project themselves. Start with one school, one teaching topic or a set of useful resources, and commission Will Legend to help plan, connect, deliver and communicate outcomes. Schools continue to lead their own educational needs, and partners contribute their expertise. Clearly scoped commissions also enable the team to continue its education-sharing work.

EXTEND THE LEARNING

From Xinjiang schools to glacier science and school sharing

Partners can connect support for Xinjiang schools with glacier field learning, representative training and science sharing back in schools. Will Legend coordinates the learning route with schools, research and local partners around the project’s goals.

Train Glacier Conservation Ambassadors

Tianshan Glacier No. 1 field learning journey

Businesses, organisations and schools can combine the Xinjiang Tianshan Glacier Journey with Glacier Conservation Ambassador training. Representatives learn in a research setting, then use Will Legend’s teaching materials, films and conservation content to share glacier science with schoolchildren.

The training is based on the 1.5°C Climate Action: Let the Glacier Cool field learning course, co-developed by Will Legend and the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NWIEER, CAS).

At your chosen venue

For representatives and training goals agreed with the commissioning partner.

At the Tianshan research station

Combine representative training with the Tianshan Glacier Journey and field learning.

Programme arrangements: A one- or two-day course can be discussed. Training may take place at a venue designated by the commissioning partner or at the Tianshan Glaciological Station within the Tianshan glacier protected area. NWIEER coordinates and appoints instructors; duration, content, instructors, venue and itinerary are agreed around participants’ backgrounds and hosting arrangements.

Certificate: Participants who complete the course can receive a Glacier Conservation Ambassador training certificate jointly issued by Will Legend and NWIEER. It confirms course completion and ambassador status; it is not an academic qualification or professional credential.

Field learning in practice

Students from Shun Tak Fraternal Association Lee Kam Primary School completed field learning at the Tianshan Glaciological Station and received a “Green-blueprint” Award jointly issued by Will Legend and NWIEER.

The programme shows how schools, research facilities and education content can connect in one practical learning route.

Education and professional partners can take part too

Education providers, travel and educational tour companies, marketing agencies and other professional partners can add this route to existing services while retaining their client relationships and contributing their own expertise. Will Legend provides research connections, course content and coordination; roles, communication, deliverables and fees are agreed before work begins.
