608 “Green-blueprint” Event, Connecting More than 5 Million Traffic Rate, the Integration of Glaciers, Land and Oceans

Leading children towards future eco (green) living – Thanks again to the schools, teachers, parents and students who participated that day, as well as corporates and welfare organizations for their strong support! At the event, the “Let the Glacier Cool” SDG and ESG Educational Tours return triumphantly. Teachers and students from the two schools shared their experiences in exploring glaciers and promoted the importance of protecting glaciers.

Here, we also sincerely hope that the winning teams in the “Let the Glacier Cool” STEM Academic Competition, will go to the Earth’s Third Pole – 4860 Dagu Glacier for a field trip at the end of July, achieve cultural exchanges and knowledge sharing between the two places, learn more about Agenda for Sustainable Development, and deepen understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Award-winning Students Explore Future and Set a Benchmarking (Ceiling) for SDG and ESG Education Hong Kong Will Legend will sponsor students from CCC Kei Faat Primary School and Yuen Long Merchants Association Secondary School to explore the Dagu Glacier located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Hong Kong Will Legend “Let the Glacier Cool” programme is supported by the Northwest Institute of Eco-Environmental Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Dagu Glacier Management Bureau, and has established the “Third Pole Hong Kong Glacier Museum and Landmark” that is the pride of Hong Kong people. In the coming visit, it is summer on the plateau. In addition to seeing the rare glaciers with their own eyes,  students can also stand on the glaciers, walk into the ice caves, and listen to the story of professor Wang Feiteng, who is a researcher of Tianshan Glaciological Station, Chinese Academy of Sciences, member of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Global Cryosphere Monitoring Program (GCW) Expert Team and Third Pole Regional Climate Service Center (TPRCC) expert team member.

Set Foot on Glacier’s Green Corridor for the First Time “Walking on the hiking trails of the Holy Mountain, you can enjoy the magnificent scenery of snow-capped mountains, breathe the fresh forest air, and feel the romance and fragrance of wild flowers. At the same time, you will also have close contact with various wild animals, which will make you feel the charm of nature. Here, children can go hiking, challenge themselves, and at the same time enjoy the beautiful scenery and gain a lot of happiness and growth.”

Dagu Glacier is rich in ecological resources. Students can also walk along the green corridor on the glacier, get close contact with the relict plants of the Ice Age, the national second-level key protected plant Kingdoniaceae (Single Leaf), and witness climate change. Interact closely with ethnic minorities and bee farmers on the snowy mountains, and appreciate the biodiversity brought by urban wildlife. Students can fully understand how glaciers conserve clean water sources, water and land nourish the nature, forming oases and forests on land, sending pulses for urban wildlife corridors, and giving birth to biodiversity and food crops. Meltwater from glaciers merges into rivers carrying nutrients, and eventually merges into the sea, nourishing marine life, and let the ocean breathe, oceans exhale oxygen, and absorb the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide to let the glacier cool, glaciers maintain a balance of accumulation and ablation, stabilize the planet’s temperatures and fresh water resources, practice sustainable development for humans and nature. Various exploration experiences will become “Window” for Hong Kong students to open up a future where humans and nature can coexist harmoniously. “Green-blueprint Initiative” Promotes the Sustainability of Humans and Nature For some people who especially live in the cities, it’s hard for them to understand the value of nature such as wildlife animals, insects, plants, rivers, oceans, forests, and beautiful landscapes etc. The fact is, nature underpins our society, economy, lives, and our very existence indeed. We shouldn’t consider that nature is free, and often take it for granted and overexploit it. The science shows clearly that in order to avert the worst impacts of climate change and preserve a livable planet, global temperature increase needs to be limited to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Currently, the Earth is already about 1.1°C warmer than it was in the late 1800s, and emissions continue to rise. To keep global warming to no more than 1.5°C – as called for in the Paris Agreement – emissions need to be reduced by 45% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050. Facing the challenge of global climate change, Hong Kong Will Legend is committed to supporting enterprises to achieve a net-zero economy, promoting low-carbon transformation through green finance, and building a sustainable business model. Hong Kong Will Legend believes that plans organized and led at the social and community level can be implemented more effectively. Promote Social and Economic Development While Protecting Natural Ecology and Biodiversity Hong Kong Will Legend draws a blueprint towards future eco (green) living, has created different conservation and education programmes. For example, “Urban Wildlife Corridor Conversation & Education Programme”, “Sunflower Station”, “Nature School”, “Home For Bees Conversation & Education Programme”, and “Plant For Butterflies” to increase biodiversity. Hong Kong Will Legend’s goals are to ensure the survival and reproduction of plants, supporting forest regeneration, reducing carbon emissions to achieve carbon neutrality, improving the quantity and quality of agricultural production, maintaining a livable climate and contributing to sustainable development goals.
