UN Chief Hails Rural Revitalization Success in Poverty Alleviation, People’s Sharing Economic Achievements

UN Secretary General Salutes China’s Poverty-Alleviation Efforts

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has congratulated China on its success in eliminating extreme poverty in rural areas, and he said the notable accomplishment is a significant contribution to realizing a better and more prosperous world as envisioned by the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. “It shows the importance of political commitment at all levels of government and policy stability to improve the conditions of the poorest and most vulnerable.” Guterres said. “I thank China for its role in shaping and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, as evidenced by its strong commitment and significant progress to eradicate poverty in all forms and dimensions, one of the world’s leading challenges. China’s achievements provide valuable lessons in poverty alleviation that are being shared with other countries through South South Cooperation. I commend President Xi Jinping for announcing at the seventy sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly that China will end financing of coal-fired power plants abroad and direct support to green and low-carbon energy. Welcomes its leadership in putting forward the Kunming Declaration.  Ambition on biodiversity and climate are mutually reinforcing. Both in Glasgow and Kunming, we must do our part to make peace with nature and safeguard our planet for future generations. Great Achievements in Poverty Alleviation in the New Era General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that “Comprehensive promotion of rural revitalization is an important task in building a powerful agricultural country in the new era.” All 832 impoverished counties across the country have been lifted out of poverty. Nearly 100 million rural poor people have been lifted out of poverty. More than 9.6 million poor people have been relocated. This historic achievement has solved the problem of absolute poverty, and consolidated the results of poverty alleviation. It has made a major contribution to the cause of world poverty reduction.  (people.cn 2023) This major achievement practices the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
