On 12 June 2024, President Xi Jinping made the remarks when delivering a video speech to the opening ceremony of the celebration for the 60th anniversary of UNCTAD. President Xi said, “In the coming five years, China will contribute 20 million U.S. dollars to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to help implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and ensure that no country will be left behind. Holding humanity’s future and people’s well-being close to our heart, we will work together with all parties to give the world a bright future of peace, security, prosperity, and progress.”

The science shows clearly that in order to avert the worst impacts of climate change and preserve a livable planet, global temperature increase needs to be limited to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
