Giant Pandas and Glaciers Lead Ecological Conservation, Cultural Exchanges and Ethnic Integration

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and it is even more meaningful for the central government to send giant pandas to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region! Hong Kong Will Legend is willing to take pandas and glaciers as an opportunity to join hands with Hong Kong teachers and students to go to Chengdu, Dujiangyan, Wenchuan, Aba Prefecture, Dagu Glacier in Sichuan, to practice sustainable development education through the “Green-blueprint Initiative”. Both can contribute to the two places promote sustainable economic, cultural, educational and ecological values.

Sichuan and Hong Kong have always had close relations, and Hong Kong has been Sichuan’s largest source of foreign investment for many years. The Sichuan-Hong Kong Cooperation Conference mechanism has developed steadily since its establishment in 2018. With the opening of the high-speed rail train from Hong Kong to Chengdu in July 2023, the distance between Sichuan and Hong Kong will be further shortened. Hong Kong Will Legend hopes to use the Sichuan Giant Panda and Hong Kong Educational Tours (study tours) as a bridge for exchanges between the people of the two places, connect the people of the two places, promote each other’s economic growth through eco-tourism, and achieve green living.

Giant Pandas and Educational Tours Deepen Ties between Hong Kong and the Mainland of China

The China Wildlife Conservation Association said that on the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to the motherland, the central government has decided to once again gift the Hong Kong special administrative region a pair of giant pandas, which fully reflects the central government’s love and care for the Hong Kong people. The new giant pandas will arrive in Hong Kong to further deepen cooperation between the two parties in the fields of giant panda breeding and management, artificial breeding, disease prevention and control, conservation research, culture and education. This will help improve the level of giant panda conservation research and further strengthen exchanges and connections between the mainland of China and Hong Kong. Similarly, Hong Kong Will Legend leads teachers and students in Hong Kong to set foot on glaciers to learn about the cryosphere and gain an in-depth understanding of the impact of climate change on the Third Pole and plateau glaciers (“Asia’s Water Tower”), and even on the global environment. While realizing the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, it also allows them to further understand the country’s rapid development and green transformation. Promote national integration, cultural exchanges, enhance national feelings through SDG and ESG Educational Tours (Study Tours), and repay the love of the country with actions. As the initiator of the “Let the Glacier Cool” programme, Hong Kong Will Legend has taken the lead in injecting start-up funds into the “Will Legend Glacier Scientific Research and Talent Development Project”, to serve as training scientific and tour guide ambassadors for the for the “Tianshan No. 1 Glacier Journey and the Third Pole 4860 Glacier Journey”. The project received support from Professor Wang Feiteng of the Tianshan Glacier Observation and Experiment Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Dagu Glacier Scenic Area Management Bureau, and established the “Third Pole Hong Kong Glacier Museum and Landmark” at Dagu Glacier in Sichuan, which is the pride of Hong Kong people. At the same time, through “Education and Promotion” work, protecting the Third Pole, the Antarctic and the Arctic, so that the public, especially the next generation, will understand that protecting glaciers is equivalent to protecting mankind’s most precious freshwater resources, nature and the Earth. Through the “Green-blueprint Initiative”, Hong Kong Will Legend organizes sustainable education activities for schools and assists schools in promoting sustainable development education goals such as culture, conservation, and education. Hong Kong Will Legend also connects the green economy and provides ESG sponsorship opportunities for enterprises, so that enterprises can share economic achievements with public and jointly draw up the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Hong Kong Will Legend leads glacier protection journeys, showing teachers and students how to to apply the concept of “Supporting Social and Economic Development with Glacier Ecosystems, and Giving Back to Glacier Conservation with Economic Achievements” – meaning while improving economic and social development, we should practice peaceful and balanced coexistence with nature and seek sustainable development of peace, health and prosperity for humans now and in the future. Although glaciers are far away from us, if each of us can love nature and is willing to shoulder the responsibility of environmental protection while developing, we can protect the glaciers, slow down the melting speed of glaciers, reduce the rate of glacier ablation and, save the future of humans.
